The invention solves this problem in that a common load-dependent control for the operation of the lifter and the Saugerbetätigung is provided. For this purpose, it is recommended that the vacuum cleaner is associated with at least one pressure sensor, which receives the pressure prevailing in the suction cup and directs it to the controller. The lifting device for manipulating the load is released when lifting the load only after the sucker operation, in particular from reaching a preferably load-dependent, at least necessary negative pressure in the suction plates, from the controller. All safety-relevant processes are then made dependent on the weight and the prevailing pressure conditions. Before executing individual control commands, a computer, in particular a PLC, checks whether the respective command switched by an operator can also be executed safely, otherwise safety-critical commands are not accepted at all and an optical and / or acoustic warning is issued.
